Pakistan Shaban 2026 Moon Sighting: Dates and Updates

Excitement is growing among Muslims, particularly in Pakistan, following SUPARCO’s latest forecast regarding the Shaban moon, signaling that the holy month of Ramadan is approaching. As anticipation builds, believers across the country are turning their focus toward worship, fasting, and spiritual preparation while closely monitoring developments related to the moon sighting.

The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has stated that the new moon of Shaban 1447 Hijri is expected to be born on 19 January 2026 at 12:52 AM (PST). Shaban, which precedes the holy month of Ramadan, holds great religious importance and is regarded as a time for reflection, increased devotion, and readiness for the most sacred period in the Islamic calendar.

According to SUPARCO, by sunset on 19 January 2026, the moon’s age will be approximately 17 hours and 36 minutes. However, astronomical conditions may make moon sighting difficult. In Pakistan’s coastal regions, the gap between sunset and moonset is expected to be only about 33 minutes, significantly reducing the likelihood of spotting the crescent with the naked eye.

Based on these factors, experts suggest that the chances of observing the Shaban moon on the evening of 19 January 2026 are quite low. Consequently, it appears unlikely that the first day of Shaban will begin on 20 January 2026 (Tuesday).

Despite these scientific projections, SUPARCO emphasized that the final and authoritative decision regarding the start of Shaban will rest with Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. The committee will review verified moon sighting reports from across the country before making an official announcement and formally initiating the countdown to Ramadan.

As Shaban draws nearer, preparations for Ramadan are becoming increasingly visible in mosques, homes, and communities. The approaching month serves as a reminder of the spiritual journey ahead, centered on fasting, prayer, mercy, and forgiveness. Whether the moon is sighted early or later than expected, the arrival of Shaban reinforces the sense that the most blessed days of the year are close at hand.
