Pakistan Reminds Afghanistan to Fulfill Doha Promises Before Talks

Pakistan has announced that fresh talks with Afghanistan will be held tomorrow, reaffirming the need for Kabul to fulfill its commitments made under the Doha negotiations.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andarabi stated that Pakistan expects Afghanistan to act on its earlier pledges to ensure peace, border stability, and counterterrorism cooperation. The reminder comes as both sides prepare for another round of high-level discussions aimed at addressing recent tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Speaking at a press briefing, Andarabi emphasized that Pakistan values constructive engagement with its neighbor but expects reciprocal action in line with previous agreements. He said that Afghanistan must demonstrate responsibility by implementing the promises it made during the Doha talks — a framework designed to foster regional peace and mutual trust.

Diplomatic observers note that this round of talks holds significant importance, especially given the recent border security issues and trade disruptions between the two countries. The meetings are expected to cover cross-border movement, counterterrorism strategies, and economic collaboration.

Pakistan’s call for compliance with the Doha commitments underscores its consistent stance that peace in the region depends on Afghanistan’s commitment to its word. The spokesperson reiterated that both nations share the goal of achieving lasting peace and stability but said tangible progress is only possible through trust and action.

This renewed engagement also aligns with Islamabad’s broader efforts to promote regional connectivity projects, such as the Trans-Afghan Rail and Corridor Project, which aims to strengthen trade and transport links between Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Central Asia. Officials believe that implementing the Doha framework could help ensure the success of such initiatives by improving security cooperation and political understanding.

The Foreign Office further highlighted Pakistan’s continued support for Afghanistan’s humanitarian and reconstruction efforts. However, Andarabi cautioned that the international community expects Kabul to adhere to its international obligations, particularly regarding counterterrorism and border control.

Analysts suggest that tomorrow’s meeting could set the tone for a more stable relationship between the two countries if both sides demonstrate sincerity and restraint. The coming days will determine whether these negotiations pave the way for renewed regional cooperation or deepen existing mistrust.
