Pakistan Rejects India’s Claim of Kashmir as “Integral Part,” Cites UN Recognition of Dispute

Pakistan has once again rejected India’s assertion that Jammu and Kashmir is an “integral part” of its territory, emphasizing that the region remains disputed as recognized by the United Nations and the international community.

During a high-level UN Security Council debate on peacekeeping operations, Gul Qaiser Sarwani, Counselor at Pakistan’s Mission to the UN, responded to India’s stance, reiterating that “every official UN map depicts Jammu and Kashmir as disputed territory.” This followed remarks by Indian Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, who had repeated India’s claim that “Kashmir has been, is, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India.”

Sarwani highlighted the historical and legal reality of Kashmir’s status, urging for the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions that call for a plebiscite to determine the future of the region. He also criticized India’s heavy military presence in Kashmir and raised concerns about human rights violations, citing the deaths of over 100,000 Kashmiris since 1989.

Pakistan continues to advocate for a peaceful resolution through a UN-supervised plebiscite, a position echoed by Hurriyat leaders who extended support and solidarity to Pakistan.
