Pakistan has started work on its first Centre of Excellence in Gaming and Animation (CEGA). This major project, funded by the Ignite National Technology Fund, aims to strengthen the country’s gaming sector.
The Rs. 2.52 billion project was awarded to HUM Networks and officially began on August 1, 2025. CEGA will focus on training, innovation, and industry growth over the next five years.
This centre aims to position Pakistan as a regional hub in the booming global gaming industry. It will offer state-of-the-art equipment, co-working spaces, and training programs designed to develop high-demand gaming skills among young professionals.
Last year, Pakistan’s gaming industry earned around $170 million. The country has more than 8,000 professionals working in this sector. Pakistan’s strong ICT talent pool produces over 30,000 graduates annually, which supports the gaming ecosystem’s growth.
With 195 million mobile subscribers and 119 million 3G/4G users, Pakistan has a large and young population. This demographic makes it a promising market for gaming and animation ventures.
The project went through a detailed bidding and evaluation process starting in May 2024. HUM Networks was selected after technical and financial reviews, with contract signing in July 2025. CEGA will operate under strict government procurement rules to ensure transparency.
Officials from Ignite believe this Centre of Excellence will boost Pakistan’s creative and technical abilities in gaming. The facility will also encourage innovation and help build a sustainable gaming industry. By merging technology, arts, and media, the centre aims to provide solutions for both local and global markets.
