According to the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), the export of pink salt has the potential to generate billions of dollars.

Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, President of the ICCI, stated that Pakistan is the world’s sole producer of pink salt and emphasised the importance of government assistance in the value addition of this salt.

According to him, this would allow Pakistan to significantly increase its exports and earn more money in the global market. This was Bakhtawari’s point of view during a meeting with a group from Miracle Salt, a US-based company led by Nadeem Ahmed.

Despite the fact that the global market for pink salt is expected to be around $12 billion, according to Bakhtawari, Pakistan’s current yearly export of this salt is only around $70 million, far less than its full potential.

He stated that while Pakistan now exports 90% of its raw pink salt at a low price of $60-80 per tonne, other countries make much larger profits by adding value to Pakistan’s raw pink salt and selling it to other markets.

He urged the federal government to set a minimum export price for pink salt and to help businesses improve value-addition capabilities, thereby increasing export potential.

During the discussion, Nadeem Ahmed expressed his desire to invest in Pakistan’s pink salt to develop value-added goods, citing the country’s enormous export potential in the global market.

He also emphasised the importance of the government developing a comprehensive pink salt policy and regulating its trade and exports in order to attract more international investment.
