Pakistan Airports Set to Go Fully Cashless in Major Digital Shift

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has unveiled a major digital initiative to make all airports across the country completely cashless.

Under the plan, both passengers and staff will be able to use digital payment options for all airport services, removing the need for cash transactions. In partnership with the State Bank of Pakistan, the PAA will roll out QR code-based payment systems across airport facilities.

Officials said the initiative aims to enhance convenience, transparency, and financial security for travelers and vendors. All airport shops, restaurants, and service providers will be required to adopt the new system.

The first phase will launch at Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore airports, followed by Faisalabad, Multan, and Sialkot in the second phase, eventually covering all regional terminals.

According to a PAA spokesperson, the move aligns with Pakistan’s national fintech vision, promoting contactless and traceable transactions. The digital shift is expected to reduce fraud risks, speed up payments, and deliver a smoother experience for travelers while modernizing the country’s airport infrastructure.
