During the match, New Zealand chose to bat first and set a formidable target of 402 runs for Pakistan. Pakistan was successfully chasing the target when rain interrupted the game. When the match resumed after the rain delay, it was shortened to 41 overs, and Pakistan had to chase a target of 342 runs. However, as soon as Pakistani batsmen Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam returned to the crease, rain disrupted the game once again.
