[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday proposed that the recently implemented fixed gas metre charge of Rs. 500 per month be scrapped.

Public Accounts Committee Chairman Noor Alam Khan, who presided over the meeting, stated that fixed charges of Rs. 500 per month are also collected from consumers whose total bill does not exceed Rs. 1,500 per month. He stated that the poor simply cannot afford to pay such fees on a monthly basis, and he referred to the fees as “illegal.”

The committee was informed by Secretary Petroleum that the gas rate has been raised with retroactive effect beginning January 1, 2023. He also stated that households consuming less than 1 cubic hectometer (the Ogra level is 0.9 cubic hectometer) were not affected by the increase.

Furthermore, the committee instructed that additional gas connections be issued to consumers. Khan stated that he will write a letter to the prime minister in this regard.

The PAC Chairman stated that he is not concerned about the sector, but that common consumers should have priority access to petrol.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
