The long-range missile flew for over an hour before landing in the sea west of Japan, falling short of Japanese waters. The launch comes after North Korea threatened retaliation against what it claimed were recent US spy plane incursions over its territory.
The US has dismissed the accusations, stating that its military patrols adhere to international law. Security concerns on the Korean peninsula have increased this year following North Korea’s testing of new weapons and record-breaking missile launches in 2022.

In response, the US and South Korea have intensified their joint military drills. North Korea’s missile launch on Wednesday prompted a meeting between South Korean and US officials, who condemned the act as a violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
North Korea’s previous launch occurred in mid-June when it fired two short-range ballistic missiles in response to US and South Korean drills.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
