Punjab has introduced a stricter procedure for obtaining a regular driving license. The revised process includes specific deadlines for testing and fee payments.
The new rules came into effect on September 17, 2026. Applicants must now complete several important steps within fixed time limits.
Under the revised procedure, applicants who pass the e-Sign test must appear for the road test within 24 hours. The deadline starts after the e-Sign test is successfully completed.
If an applicant does not take the road test within 24 hours, the e-Sign test result will expire. The applicant will then have to restart the entire process.
24-Hour Deadline for PSID
Applicants who successfully pass both required tests face another 24-hour deadline. They must generate a Payment Slip ID, commonly known as PSID, within this period.
Failure to generate the PSID on time will cancel both the e-Sign and road test results. Applicants will then need to complete the testing process again.
The Punjab Traffic Police has introduced these deadlines to ensure applicants complete the process within the specified timeframe.
Once the PSID has been generated, applicants receive a longer period for fee payment. They have seven days to pay the required driving license fee.
If the payment is not made within seven days, the application will be canceled. Applicants will then need to restart the applicable process.
Tests Must Be Repeated After PSID Expiry
The revised rules also explain what happens when a PSID expires.
Applicants with an expired PSID must retake both the e-Sign and road tests. The same 24-hour requirement will apply after the testing process.
This means applicants need to carefully manage each stage. Missing any deadline could result in additional testing requirements.
The new procedure applies to applicants seeking a regular driving license under the revised system.
Traffic Police Centers Given Responsibility
The Punjab Traffic Police center where the road test takes place will handle the next application step.
The center will be responsible for submitting the regular driving license application. This assigns the responsibility for application submission to the relevant traffic police center.
The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic, Punjab, has directed officials to implement the revised procedure.
Traffic officials across all districts have been instructed to follow the new requirements strictly. Applicants are therefore expected to complete testing and payment steps within the announced deadlines.
The Punjab driving license process now includes clear time limits after each major stage. Applicants should remain aware of the deadlines to avoid cancellation and repeated tests.
