Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has expressed concern over poor Class 9 examination results. She also ordered action against teachers linked to weak performance.
The decisions were made during a video-link meeting chaired by the Punjab Chief Minister. The meeting focused on school education and examination performance.
Officials briefed Maryam Nawaz about the latest situation in government schools. The meeting agreed in principle to connect students’ results with teacher performance.
Maryam Nawaz ordered immediate action against schools where the Class 9 result falls below 20 percent. The move is aimed at addressing extremely low academic performance.
Monthly and Annual Exams Proposed
The Punjab Chief Minister also approved the introduction of monthly and annual examinations in every class.
Officials were directed to prepare a complete timeline and education reform plan. The plan is expected to be presented during the following week.
The meeting also decided to reward schools showing strong academic results. Schools achieving the highest results in each district will also receive awards.
The government plans to introduce evening coaching for academically weak students. The facility will be offered in government schools.
Officials also agreed to discourage schools from removing students because of poor academic performance. The focus will instead remain on helping weaker students improve.
Vacant Head Teacher Posts to Be Filled
Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to fill vacant head teacher positions within 45 days.
She also ordered the appointment of subject specialists in government schools. The education minister was instructed to improve checking and monitoring at every level.
The Punjab Chief Minister expressed satisfaction with the performance of Government Girls High School Bhoun in Jhang.
She also requested monthly school rating data for every district. The data will help officials track school performance more regularly.
Unified Monitoring App Planned
The meeting approved plans for a new “Unified Monitoring App” for school monitoring.
The application is expected to support monitoring activities across government schools. It will also provide officials with another mechanism to track performance.
A pilot project called “Library on Wheels” will also be launched in Lahore. The mobile library will operate through a three-wheeler vehicle.
It will carry more than 20,000 digital books. The facility will also provide video-based learning lectures.
Performance of Outsourced Schools Reviewed
Maryam Nawaz also sought a performance report for outsourced schools. She stressed the need for measurable improvements in education.
The Punjab Chief Minister said point-scoring in government schools would not resolve academic problems.
She emphasized that actual improvement should be visible in student results. She also said teachers’ efforts should be reflected in students’ academic performance.
