Officially named the Bahrain-Qatar Causeway project, it is anticipated to slash travel time from five hours to just 30 minutes over a distance of 21 miles. Initially estimated at £1.8 billion in 2008, the project’s costs have since escalated to nearly £2.4 billion.

The bridge will facilitate both road and railway traffic and is viewed as a natural extension of the King Fahd Causeway, linking Khobar, Saudi Arabia, with Al Jasra and Bahrain.
Furthermore, it is projected to reach a height of 40 meters and accommodate maritime navigation.
Dr. Omar Alubaydli from the Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International, and Energy Studies (Derasat) emphasized in February that Bahrain’s proximity to Qatar, coupled with the vibrancy of both economies, positions them as logical trading partners, further bolstered by strong cultural ties.
Initially approved in February 2005, the project was envisioned as the world’s longest fixed link at the time, connecting Bahrain and Qatar.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
