Neeraj Chopra Invites Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem to Prestigious Global Javelin Event in India

India to Host International Javelin Event Honoring Neeraj Chopra; Arshad Nadeem Among Invitees

BENGALURU – In a landmark move to celebrate its Olympic champion, India is set to host an international javelin competition named after Neeraj Chopra, bringing together elite throwers from across the globe. Among the top athletes invited is Pakistan’s javelin sensation, Arshad Nadeem, marking a potential high point in regional sports diplomacy.

This will be the first time India hosts a global javelin event dedicated to its Olympic gold medalist. Speaking to the media on April 21, Chopra revealed that he has personally invited Arshad Nadeem to take part in the tournament.

“I had a conversation with Arshad. He mentioned he’ll discuss with his coach before making a final decision. We’re awaiting confirmation. We’ve also extended invitations to other top international athletes,” said Neeraj Chopra.

The tournament will feature leading Indian athletes like Rohit Yadav, along with renowned javelin throwers from Europe and other regions. Originally planned for Panchkula, Haryana, the event has been relocated to Bengaluru due to logistical and infrastructure considerations.

If Arshad Nadeem receives approval to participate from his country’s authorities, his appearance could be a significant gesture of sportsmanship between India and Pakistan, two nations with a complex political relationship but a shared passion for athletics.

Both Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem have emerged as dominant figures in South Asian athletics. At the Paris Olympics, Arshad Nadeem made headlines by securing gold with a personal best of 92.97 meters, surpassing Chopra’s strong 89.45 meters throw.

The upcoming event is expected to not only boost the popularity of javelin in the region but also strengthen international sporting ties.
