While Naqvi positions himself as the Senate “candidate of all,” his potential bid faces strong opposition from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). PTI senior leader Asad Qasier ruled out any reconciliation if Naqvi were to be included in the interior ministry. Earlier reports indicated that Naqvi might become the adviser to the prime minister on interior affairs, with Rana Mehmoodul Hassan as the Senate candidate from Punjab.

Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, the President of the ruling coalition’s key party, PML-Q, reportedly set a condition for Naqvi’s unopposed election as a senator. Currently serving as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Naqvi’s appointment has faced legal challenges in the Islamabad High Court.
