Mohsin Naqvi Expected To Be Pakistan’s Next Interior Minister

Mohsin Naqvi, the current Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is anticipated to assume the role of the interior minister in the cabinet of recently elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to reports, Naqvi, previously leading the caretaker setup in Punjab as the chief minister, is likely to be nominated as a joint candidate for the Senate election by the ruling coalition.

Sources suggest that following his successful election as a senator, Naqvi will be appointed as the next interior minister of the country. Interestingly, he is expected to retain his position as the PCB chairman despite taking on this new responsibility within the federal government.

In a significant development last month, Mohsin Naqvi secured a unanimous and uncontested election as the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board for a three-year term. The special meeting of the Board of Governors, convened by Mr. Shah Khawar at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, witnessed his unanimous selection.

During this process, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar had put forth Naqvi’s name for consideration, leading to his successful appointment as the PCB Chairman. The dual responsibilities Naqvi is likely to undertake—heading the PCB and assuming the position of interior minister—underscore his versatility and the confidence vested in him by both the cricketing and political spheres.
