Many exposed as Toshakhana details surface

The Cabinet Division’s website has been updated with information about Toshakhana.

President Dr. Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, former President Asif Ali Zardari, former President Nawaz Sharif, late military dictator Pervez Musharraf, former Premier Shaukat Aziz, former PM Yousuf Raza Gilani, former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former President Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, former President Zafarullah Khan Jamali, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, Finance Minister.

According to the documentation, with the exception of a few, the majority of the presents were kept free of charge by the office holders.

During their visits, Mr Zardari and Mr Sharif each received one bulletproof car, which they kept after paying a fee to the Toshakhana.

Imran Khan, Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), and his wife received five valuable wristwatches, jewellery, and other stuff.

Pervez Musharraf and Shaukat Aziz received hundreds of foreign goods for free.

In exchange for gifts from foreign dignitaries, these public officials, particularly the rulers, gave away gifts worth millions of rupees to foreign representatives.

Asif Ali Zardari

On January 26, 2009, Mr. Zardari retained one BMW 760 Li white (security version). The car’s value was set at Rs27.3 million, but the former president kept it for a little more than Rs4 million.

In March 2011, he kept a wristwatch worth Rs1 million after paying Rs158,250 for it and other stuff.

In June 2011, he kept a wristwatch worth Rs1.25 million after paying Rs189,219 for it and other stuff.

In October 2011, the PPP leader retained a Rs1m Cartier wristwatch after paying Rs321,000 for the item and a gun.

Nawaz Sharif

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif purchased a Mercedes Benz worth Rs4.2 million in April 2008 for Rs636,888. He kept a Rolex timepiece worth Rs1.18 million after paying Rs243,000 in November 2013.

In January 2015, he kept a Piaget timepiece for Rs1 million after paying Rs240,000.

In January 2016, he kept a Rs2 million Christopher Claret watch, a Rs19.5 million ring, and a set of Rs16 million cufflinks after paying Rs7.6 million for them. After paying Rs10.8 million, his wife Kulsoom Nawaz kept a bracelet worth Rs12.7 million and a necklace with earring worth Rs41.6 million.

Nawaz kept a Dela Cour watch for Rs3.2 million, a ring worth Rs8 million, and a pair of cufflinks worth Rs5 million after paying Rs3.2 million.

He kept a Rolex watch for Rs1.2 million and another Rolex watch worth Rs850,000 after paying Rs469,000 in October 2016.

Hussain Nawaz, his son, retained a Rolex watch valued at Rs940,000 after paying Rs186,000. Nawaz kept a diamond necklace worth Rs1 million after paying Rs207,560.

Nawaz kept a Rolex watch worth Rs4 million despite paying Rs808,000 in May 2017.

Imran Khan

Mr Khan was presented with five valuable wristwatches, including a Graff watch valued Rs3.8 million. He kept the presents after paying Rs0.754m in October 2018.

In September 2018, he kept a Graff timepiece for Rs85 million, a pair of cufflinks worth Rs5.6 million, a pen worth Rs1.5 million, and a ring worth Rs8.75 million after paying Rs20 million for these things.

Another Rolex watch for Rs1.5 million shortly followed, and the former prime minister kept it after paying Rs294,000 for it.

Imran Khan retained another Rolex timepiece worth Rs900,000 in November 2018, after paying Rs338,600 for the watch and some other items.

In October 2019, he kept a boxed watch valued at Rs1.9 million after paying Rs935,000. Imran Khan retained another Rolex watch valued at Rs4.4m in September 2020, after paying Rs2.4m for the watch and a number of other presents.

In the same month, his wife Bushra Bibi kept a necklace worth Rs10 million, a bracelet worth Rs2.4 million, a ring for Rs2.8 million, and a pair of earrings worth Rs1.85 million after paying Rs9 million for them.

Arif Alvi

Samina Alvi, President Dr Arif Alvi’s wife, kept a necklace worth Rs1.19 million in October 2019 after paying Rs865,000 for it and other items in the jewellery box.

After paying Rs1.2m, the president kept a Rolex timepiece worth Rs2.5m in February 2022.

On February 3, 2003, Sheikh Rashid retained dozens of gifts, including two gold coins, after paying only Rs3,420.

Khurshid M Qasuri received various gifts in 2005 and kept them for free.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf kept a Graff wristwatch valued at Rs890,000 after paying Rs218,000 for it and other goods in November 2012.

Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf

The worth of the presents presented to former military ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf in 2004 was discovered to be more than Rs6.5 million, according to the record.

The watch gifted to Musharraf in 2005 was said to cost Rs500,000.

After paying the requisite money, the former president received dozens of costly watches, jewellery boxes, and other gifts, which he kept.

In 2003, his wife, Sehba Musharraf, received a jewellery box worth more than Rs2.6 million.

On April 6, 2006, she received Rs1.65 million in gifts.

The total value of the presents she received on August 1, 2007 was Rs3.4 million.

On April 3, 2007, she got gifts totaling more than Rs10 million.

On January 31, 2007, Musharraf  received gifts valued at Rs1.4 million.

Yousuf Raza Gillani

Fauzia Gilani, the wife of former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, maintained a jewellery set worth Rs2 million after paying Rs326,043 in December 2009.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf

In November 2012, former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf retained a Graff wristwatch valued at Rs890,000 after paying Rs218,000.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi

Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi kept a Hublot wristwatch for Rs15 million, a pair of cufflinks worth Rs1.2 million, a pen worth Rs1.5 million, a ring worth Rs3 million, and prayer beads worth Rs1.85 million after paying Rs4.5 million in October 2017. After paying Rs19.99 million, his wife Sameena Shahid received a jewellery set worth Rs99 million.

Abbasi kept a Rolex watch boxset worth Rs23 million despite paying Rs4.59 million in November 2017. He kept a Rolex timepiece worth Rs25 million after paying Rs5.27 million in April 2018.

Shaukat Aziz

Former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz received a watch worth Rs850,000 in 2005, which was auctioned off for Rs355,000.

He had saved several gifts by claiming their value was less than Rs10,000.

Aziz received a Rs1.35 million watch on September 27, 2007.

On December 20, 2006, he received Rs3.7 million in presents, which he opted to keep.

He returned many gifts to the Toshakhana in 2006.

Aziz received a Rs1.35 million watch on June 2, 2006.

On January 7, 2007, the previous prime minister received Rs1.8 million in gifts.
