The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued a directive to suspend all new construction projects for a period of six months, from October to March, due to the alarming level of air pollution.
During a hearing related to efforts to address smog in the provincial capital, Justice Shahid Karim proposed cycling as one of the solutions to combat the increasing smog levels in Lahore.

In response to a query, the government’s legal representative informed the court that there are currently five ongoing construction projects in the city, with one project in Shahdara nearing completion.
The LHC conditionally allowed work on the Niazi Interchange to Babu Sabu project to commence in February. However, the provincial government is required to provide data on the environmental impacts of these projects.
Furthermore, the high court has mandated the inclusion of water treatment plants in the construction of ten-marla houses.
During the recent hearing, Justice Shahid Karim instructed authorities to impose substantial fines for improper parking and car washing at homes. Violators of these orders will face fines of Rs. 5,000 for wrong parking and Rs. 3,000 for car washing.
