The case involving Pakistani-Australian girl Hania Ahmed has reached the Lahore High Court, as legal proceedings continue over her tragic death in an incident involving Crime Control Department (CCD) personnel. The matter has sparked widespread public concern and renewed calls for accountability and a transparent investigation.
A petition filed by the Judicial Activism Panel has urged the Lahore High Court to order an independent and judicially supervised inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The plea emphasizes the need for a fair investigation to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the young girl’s death.
According to the petition, Hania’s father and younger brother were also injured during the alleged firing by CCD officials. The petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Azhar Siddique, argued that the incident represents more than an operational error, describing it as a serious violation of fundamental rights that demands full legal scrutiny.
He further stated that critical evidence, including CCTV footage, wireless communication records, and weapon usage logs, must be preserved to ensure transparency. The petition also called for the registration of a murder case against those responsible and urged reforms in CCD procedures, training, and oversight mechanisms.
During the hearing, Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry questioned the jurisdiction of the case at the Lahore High Court’s principal seat, suggesting it may fall under the Rawalpindi Bench. However, the petitioner’s counsel argued that broader legal and accountability issues related to CCD warranted consideration at the current forum.
The court later directed that the petition be heard along with the main case. The tragedy has also drawn international attention, with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese calling for a transparent and thorough investigation. As proceedings continue, the family of Hania Ahmed continues to seek answers and justice through the judicial process.
