Kushner, Witkoff Arrive in Pakistan as Iran Rules Out Direct Talks

A high-level United States delegation is set to arrive in Pakistan as diplomatic efforts around Iran continue. The visit comes at a time of rising tensions in the Middle East. However, uncertainty remains due to Iran’s refusal to hold direct talks with US officials.

The US delegation includes senior adviser Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff. Both are expected to land in Islamabad as part of ongoing diplomatic outreach. The visit is seen as an attempt to ease tensions involving Iran and explore possible solutions through indirect engagement.

Meanwhile, Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad on Friday night. His visit has raised expectations of diplomatic progress. He was received by Ishaq Dar, along with senior military and government officials, including Asim Munir. Meetings with Pakistan’s leadership are planned to discuss regional stability and peace efforts.

Pakistan is expected to play a key mediating role. Officials say the talks will focus on recent developments and possible ways to reduce tensions. The situation involving Iran remains a central concern in these discussions.

According to the White House, the US is cautiously optimistic. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said there has been “some progress” in recent days. She added that discussions in Islamabad could help move the process forward. She also noted that JD Vance may join future talks if conditions improve.

Despite these developments, Iran has clearly stated that no direct meeting with US officials will take place during this visit. A spokesperson from Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that the focus will remain on consultations with Pakistan. Tehran plans to convey its position through diplomatic channels rather than face-to-face talks with Washington.

This stance has added uncertainty to the situation. While multiple key players are gathering in Islamabad, the lack of direct engagement limits immediate progress. Observers say indirect talks may still help reduce tensions, but results are not guaranteed.
