The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced a local public holiday on June 8 to mark the annual Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi (RA), one of the city’s most revered spiritual figures. The decision was communicated through an official notification issued by the Human Resource Management Department of the corporation.
According to the notification, the holiday will be observed on 22 Zul Hijjah 1447 AH, and all offices operating under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will remain closed for the day. The move is intended to facilitate the observance of the religious event, which attracts large numbers of devotees from across Pakistan every year.

The Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi (RA) is an important spiritual occasion for many people, drawing thousands of visitors to the saint’s shrine in Karachi. Participants attend various religious gatherings, prayers, and spiritual ceremonies held in connection with the annual commemoration.
Officials stated that the declaration of the holiday was made following approval by the Karachi City Council. As a result, routine operations in KMC-managed offices and departments will be suspended for the day in recognition of the occasion.
Despite the closure of administrative offices, authorities clarified that essential and emergency services will continue to function as usual. Departments responsible for critical public services have been instructed to maintain operations to ensure that residents do not face disruptions during the holiday.
The annual Urs remains one of Karachi’s most significant religious events, attracting visitors from different regions and contributing to the city’s spiritual and cultural traditions. Local authorities typically make special arrangements each year to accommodate the large number of attendees and maintain public convenience.
The KMC has advised citizens to remain aware of the holiday schedule and cooperate with any arrangements made for the smooth observance of the Urs. Officials emphasized that uninterrupted emergency services will remain available throughout the day to serve the public when needed.
