Kamran Akmal Slams PCB for Inviting Zimbabwe and Ireland Despite Asia Cup Cancellation Rumours

Share

Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for preparing a tri-nation series with Zimbabwe and Ireland as a back-up for the Asia Cup.

In an interview with the media, the wicket-keeper batsman stated that inviting low-ranked teams would be detrimental to preparations for the 2018 World Cup.

“My request to you is that you not invite Zimbabwe or Ireland.” “Or, if you want to invite them, play your A-team against them,” Kamran Akmal suggested.

If South Africa agrees to play a series against Pakistan, whether at home or away, it will help the national squad prepare for the mega event, according to Kamran.

According to the 41-year-old, renowned Pakistani cricketers used to remark that the squad always played series against powerful teams before the World Cup, which aided them in the tournament.

According to recent reports, the PCB has approached many cricket boards about planning a triangular series during the Asia Cup timeframe in the event that the tournament is cancelled.

PCB is considering South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ireland, and the West Indies as potential participants, subject to availability through the Future Tours Programme (FTP).

South Africa and Zimbabwe are now accessible during the Asia Cup window, with South Africa hosting Australia in September for a white-ball series.
