Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan has decided to postpone its scheduled dharna in Islamabad until July 26. Addressing a press conference in Lahore, JI Pakistan Amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman criticized the government’s failure to provide relief to the people despite substantial claims. He highlighted the financial burden on citizens, noting that Pakistanis have contributed $42 billion through electricity bills and taxes but feel neglected in return.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman emphasized, “If the government wishes to avoid protests, it must alleviate the burdens on the populace.” The dharna, initially planned for July 12 to protest against rising electricity and petrol prices, has been rescheduled to July 26.

Additionally, Jamaat-e-Islami is contemplating a nationwide strike to compel the government to reconsider its taxation policies. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman argued that these policies unfairly burden ordinary citizens while exempting the wealthy.
The ongoing crisis, exacerbated by soaring utility costs and taxes allegedly imposed at the behest of international financial institutions, has stirred widespread discontent. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman condemned the government’s alignment with the IMF in budgetary decisions, arguing that such policies neglect crucial sectors like education and healthcare, where taxes on vital medical supplies have further strained public resources.
