A major European opportunity has opened for Pakistani workers as Italy announced it will issue 10,500 work visas for skilled labor from Pakistan. The decision reflects a broader effort to promote legal migration and strengthen regulated overseas employment channels.
The announcement came after a high-level meeting in Rome between Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi and Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in migration management and internal security.
Italy confirmed that 10,500 visas will be allocated specifically for Pakistani skilled workers under its legal migration framework. The move aims to provide structured employment routes and discourage illegal migration networks that exploit vulnerable individuals seeking work abroad.
During the meeting, both sides also discussed visa-free entry for Pakistani diplomatic passport holders. Italian authorities confirmed that the proposal, previously raised by Mohsin Naqvi, is now being taken forward through formal diplomatic channels.
Security cooperation was another key area of discussion. The two ministers reviewed joint efforts to combat human smuggling, drug trafficking, and terrorism. Both countries acknowledged ongoing operations to disrupt illegal migration routes and dismantle organized criminal networks.
Mohsin Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s stricter airport monitoring systems and enhanced maritime border surveillance. According to him, these measures have significantly reduced illegal departures. Matteo Piantedosi praised Pakistan’s progress, calling its actions against trafficking and narcotics noteworthy.
Italy’s interior minister emphasized that both countries will continue working together to promote safe, legal migration while expanding collaboration in other areas of mutual interest.
