The Israeli military is investigating an apparent drone attack that struck central Tel Aviv early Friday, which did not activate the air raid sirens.
The explosion occurred hours after the Israeli military confirmed it had killed a senior commander of the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia in southern Lebanon. “An initial inquiry indicates that the explosion in Tel Aviv was caused by the falling of an aerial target, and no sirens were activated. The incident is under thorough review,” the military said in a statement. It noted that air patrols had been increased to protect Israeli airspace but had not ordered new civil defense measures.

A military spokesman for Yemen’s Houthi militants, also backed by Iran, stated on the X social media website that the group would reveal details about a military operation targeting Tel Aviv.
Police reported finding the body of a man in an apartment near the explosion site and are investigating the circumstances. Footage from the area showed broken glass scattered across pavements, with crowds of onlookers near a building marked by the blast. The area was cordoned off with police tape.
Both Hezbollah and the Houthis have escalated attacks against Israel and Western targets, claiming to act in solidarity with Palestinians following Israel’s invasion of the Gaza Strip after an attack by Hamas militants on southern Israel.
