Islamabad Closes Major Hiking Trails for Indefinite Period Amid Safety Concerns

Authorities in Islamabad have announced the closure of major hiking trails as part of enhanced security measures. The decision comes ahead of the expected second round of US-Iran peace talks, which may involve high-level international delegations.

According to an official notification, several popular trails in Islamabad have been closed starting April 20. These include Trail 2, Trail 3, Trail 4, and Trail 5. The authorities have stated that the trails will remain closed for an indefinite period until further notice.

Officials said the move is necessary to ensure security during the anticipated diplomatic engagements. The presence of foreign delegations has prompted strict arrangements across the city. As a result, access to public spaces, including hiking trails, has been restricted.

In addition to trail closures, a detailed traffic management plan has been introduced in Islamabad. Key areas, especially within the Red Zone, have been sealed. Several roads are facing partial or complete closures to support security operations.

The Islamabad Traffic Police have provided alternative routes for residents and commuters. People traveling from sectors G-5, G-6, G-7, F-6, and F-7 are advised to use Margalla Road and Ninth Avenue. Traffic coming from Faisal Avenue and Zero Point is also being redirected toward Ninth Avenue.

For those traveling from Zero Point to Korral Chowk, multiple routes are available. These include Srinagar Highway, Stadium Road, Murree Road, Ninth Avenue, and Rawal Road. Authorities have suggested using these routes to avoid congestion.

Closures on Park Road and Club Road will divert traffic toward Tramri Chowk. Residents of Bhara Kahu have been advised to use Kurang Road, Bani Gala, or Lehtrar Road for smoother travel.

A temporary ban on heavy vehicles entering Islamabad has also been enforced. Trucks moving between Peshawar and Lahore are being redirected to the motorway. They can travel via Taxila, Chakri Interchange, and Chak Beli Road to reach Rawat GT Road.

Authorities have urged citizens to follow the updated traffic advisories. Commuters are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance. These steps aim to reduce inconvenience during the period of heightened security.
