Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian suggested on Sunday that a ceasefire between Israel and its allies could potentially lessen Tehran’s response to recent Israeli strikes on Iranian military sites.

“If the Israelis reconsider their actions, agree to a ceasefire, and halt the killing of innocent people in the region, it could influence the intensity and nature of our response,” Pezeshkian was quoted as saying by the state news agency IRNA.

He affirmed that Iran would not tolerate any attacks on its sovereignty and security, according to IRNA.

Israel conducted airstrikes on October 26, which it stated were in retaliation for an October 1 missile attack by Tehran. Iran described that strike as a counter-response to the killing of its leaders and a Revolutionary Guards commander.

Following last month’s strikes, Israel warned Iran against retaliation, while Tehran pledged to respond.

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reiterated on Saturday that the Islamic republic would retaliate. Addressing students in Tehran, Khamenei stated, “The enemies, including the USA and the Zionist regime, will receive a tooth-breaking response for their actions against Iran, the Iranian people, and the resistance front.”

Khamenei referenced Tehran’s network of allied groups, such as Yemen’s Houthi rebels, Lebanon’s Hezbollah, and Hamas in Palestine.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later claimed the airstrikes had impacted Iran’s defense capabilities and missile production.

Iran reported that the attack had killed four military personnel and caused minor damage to radar systems, while Iranian media reported one civilian casualty.
