Pakistan is expected to face intermittent disruptions in INTERNET services starting tomorrow, with the slowdown likely to continue for up to one week due to scheduled maintenance work on a major international submarine cable system. The temporary reduction in INTERNET performance is part of a planned repair operation being carried out by a global submarine cable consortium to fix a technical fault in one of its undersea communication lines.
According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), the maintenance activity will begin on 14 April 2026 and may remain in progress until 20 April 2026. During this period, INTERNET users across the country may experience slower browsing speeds, higher latency, and occasional connectivity issues, especially during peak evening hours when data traffic is at its highest.
PTCL has clarified that while technical teams will work in coordination with international partners to minimize the impact, some level of service disruption is unavoidable due to the complexity and scale of repairs on the global cable infrastructure. These submarine cables play a vital role in carrying INTERNATIONAL INTERNET traffic, and any maintenance work on them can temporarily affect service quality in multiple regions, including Pakistan.
The company has issued an apology to customers for the inconvenience and has advised users to remain prepared for temporary fluctuations in INTERNET connectivity throughout the maintenance window. Officials have emphasized that such operations are essential to ensure long-term stability, improved performance, and stronger reliability of INTERNET services in the future.
Once the repair work is completed, INTERNET services are expected to gradually return to normal, with improved efficiency and reduced chances of unexpected disruptions.
