Increasing food and fuel prices have kept weekly inflation above 45%.

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PSB) issued data on Friday showing that, despite a little decline, weekly inflation remained above 45 percent and was 45.72 percent on a year-over-year (YoY) basis for the week that ended on May 18, 2023.

Due to a drop in the cost of both food and non-food products, the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)-based inflation rate for the week ending May 11, 2023, fell by 0.16 percent from the previous week.

Year-on-year change

The price of cigarettes increased by 138.50 percent, tea Lipton increased by 114.93 percent, potatoes increased by 114.69 percent, gas charges for the first quarter increased by 108.38 percent, bananas increased by 104.44 percent, men’s sponge cake increased by 100.33 percent, wheat flour increased by 90.77 percent, rice basmati broken increased by 86.30 percent, eggs increased by 85.86 percent, rice Irri increased by 80.44 percent, rice Irr

Week-on-week change

A decrease was observed in the prices of decrease is observed in the prices of food items, Onions (9.04 percent), Garlic (1.76 percent), Sugar (1.42 percent), Wheat Flour (1.40 percent), Vegetable Ghee 2.5kg (0.63 percent), Mustard Oil (0.48 percent), Pulse Masoor (0.40 percent), Pulse Gramme (0.12 percent) and Vegetable Ghee 1kg (0.11 percent), non-food items, Diesel (10.38 percent), Petrol (4.24 percent), LPG (3.02 percent) and Firewood (0.89 percent).

The cost of chicken increased by 7.51%, tea Lipton increased by 4.53%, gur increased by 2.79%, eggs increased by 2.29%, energy saver increased by 2.22%, tomatoes increased by 2.01%, tea prepared increased by 1.09%, and curd increased by 1.08%.

Out of 51 items, 23 (45.10 percent) saw price increases during the week, 13 (25.49 percent) saw price decreases, and 15 (29.41 percent) saw constant prices.
