Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister, Imran Khan, has urged the government to quickly announce the next chief justice appointment.
Speaking informally with journalists at Adiala Jail, Khan voiced his support for Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court. He accused the government of trying to weaken the judiciary by undermining the powers of the chief justice.
Khan also claimed that the government is using its influence over the judiciary to conceal election fraud and prevent PTI from gaining power. He criticized Pakistan’s current state as more oppressive than the martial law eras of Zia and Musharraf.
Khan warned that if PTI is not allowed to hold rallies, especially in Rawalpindi, they will protest. He also condemned the Practice and Procedure Act, calling it an attack on democratic principles.
