Fawad Chaudhry, Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), denied on Tuesday that party chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan had requested a meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir.

In a tweet, Fawad stated that “Imran Khan has never made any request to meet [the] army commander or any of his representatives”.

He furthered that President Dr Arif Alvi has “never approached [the] chairman PTI with any idea of army commander for meeting Shahbaz Sharif” and that any rumours in this regard are “baseless”.

The PTI leader’s statement follows a tweet from veteran journalist Kamran Khan earlier today.

According to Kamran, General Munir had claimed in a meeting with the country’s business leadership that he had conveyed a message to Imran through President Alvi for meeting the prime minister.

He added that the COAS stated that Imran refused to meet with PM Shehbaz and instead conveyed his desire to meet with General Munir. But, the army leader stressed that “he is not ready to interfere in the political process.

For the benefit of the country, the former prime minister said last week that he forgiven everyone, including those who attempted to kill him in Wazirabad last year.

On Saturday, Imran addressed the nation via video link from his Zaman Park mansion, saying he was willing to talk to everyone for the good of the country.

Nevertheless, in reaction to the PTI chairman’s comments demonstrating a desire to talk, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb had said the PTI leader was “begging for an NRO”.

He did, however, point out that “neither the officer nor the institution is mentioned” in the sedition case against him.
