The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms across upper and central parts of the country from August 17 to 21.
According to the PMD, strong monsoon currents are penetrating the upper parts of Pakistan. The weather system is expected to increase rainfall activity during the coming days.
Several areas of Punjab are likely to receive rain and thunderstorms during the forecast period. These include Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Jhelum and Chakwal.
Islamabad, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sargodha and Mianwali are also expected to experience rainfall and thunderstorms.
Southern Punjab is likely to receive rain mainly on August 20 and 21. Faisalabad, Jhang, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan are among the areas included in the forecast.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could also experience widespread rain during August 17 to 21. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in several districts.
Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swat, Dir and Chitral are among the areas likely to receive rain.
Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan and Malakand could also experience heavy rainfall. Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Tank, Lakki Marwat and Waziristan may receive rain toward the end of the forecast period.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir is expected to receive rain and thunderstorms from the evening of August 16 through August 21.
Gilgit-Baltistan could also experience rainfall between August 18 and 21. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert.
Most parts of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to remain hot and humid. However, rain is forecast in Musakhel, Barkhan, Zhob, Kalat and Khuzdar from August 17 to 20.
The PMD has warned that heavy downpours could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas. Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore are particularly at risk until August 20.
Landslides are also possible in hilly areas due to heavy rainfall. Areas at risk include parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat and Azad Kashmir.
Tourists and travelers have been advised to exercise caution while visiting mountainous areas. Sudden rainfall could affect road conditions and travel routes.
Farmers have also been advised to plan agricultural activities according to the expected weather conditions.
The PMD has urged relevant authorities to remain alert and take precautionary measures. Emergency services and local administrations have also been advised to prepare for possible flooding and landslides.
The latest forecast indicates that monsoon activity will remain active across several parts of Pakistan during the coming days.
