Travel And Trade Set To Boost With Gwadar–Oman Link

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet on Friday approved the Gwadar–Oman ferry service, marking a significant step to enhance maritime connectivity and trade between Pakistan and Oman. Officials said the ferry route will support both passenger travel and cargo transport, strengthening economic and cultural ties between the two nations.

According to sources, the Gwadar–Oman ferry service is expected to reduce travel time significantly and provide a safe and efficient alternative to traditional shipping and air routes. The initiative also aligns with broader regional connectivity plans under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Pakistan’s maritime development strategy.

Transport and maritime experts highlighted that the ferry service could play a pivotal role in boosting tourism and trade. It is expected to facilitate easier movement of goods, including seafood, livestock, and other perishable commodities, while also providing a convenient travel option for Pakistani citizens visiting Oman for business or cultural exchanges.

The government’s approval of the Gwadar–Oman ferry service comes amid other initiatives to strengthen Pakistan-Oman relations. Recently, Oman introduced a cultural visa for global talent, opening new opportunities for skilled professionals and fostering educational and cultural collaborations.

Officials confirmed that the ferry service will initially operate with modern vessels capable of accommodating both passengers and vehicles, including commercial trucks. Authorities have emphasized that security protocols and safety measures will be strictly enforced to ensure smooth operations.

Economic analysts noted that the Gwadar–Oman ferry service could stimulate local employment in Gwadar, particularly in logistics, hospitality, and port operations. The government also expects that improved connectivity will encourage foreign investment and enhance regional trade competitiveness.

This new maritime link is being seen as a strategic move to strengthen bilateral relations and boost regional trade corridors. The federal cabinet expressed confidence that the Gwadar–Oman ferry service would become a reliable and cost-effective mode of transport, contributing to Pakistan’s economic growth and fostering stronger ties with Oman in both commercial and cultural sectors.
