xAI to Partner with Telegram, Bringing Grok Chatbot to Over One Billion Users
Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, is joining forces with messaging platform Telegram to introduce its Grok chatbot to Telegram’s vast user base, which exceeds one billion users.
$300 Million Investment to Integrate AI into Telegram
As part of the partnership, xAI will invest $300 million in a combination of cash and stock to integrate Grok directly into the Telegram app. The move is intended to help xAI gain a stronger position in the highly competitive AI sector.

Telegram’s founder Pavel Durov confirmed the one-year deal, which features a 50/50 revenue-sharing model. Telegram will receive half of all subscription revenues related to Grok’s services within the app.
User Privacy and Data Use
To address growing privacy concerns, Durov emphasized that xAI will only access data users explicitly share with Grok, ensuring user privacy is preserved.
The deal comes amid increasing demand for high-quality training data in the AI space. With traditional sources of open data becoming scarce, tech firms like Meta have started using public user interactions to train their models.
It is unclear whether xAI will adopt a similar approach using Telegram data. xAI’s affiliated platform, X (formerly Twitter), already uses public posts to train its AI systems, as stated in its privacy policy.
xAI’s Growing Ambitions
The partnership with Telegram is part of xAI’s broader strategy to expand its reach. The company has already engaged in several partnerships in AI infrastructure and financial services, indicating Musk’s ambition to scale the firm rapidly.
When contacted by Reuters, neither xAI nor Telegram provided further comments on the agreement.
