Modernizing Civil Registration
Under the National Registration and Biometric Policy Framework, NADRA, in collaboration with provincial governments, is modernizing the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system. By equipping hospitals and healthcare centers with real-time digital tools, the government aims to ensure timely and accurate recording of vital life events such as births and deaths at the point of occurrence.
This digitized data will not only improve national planning but will also support key government initiatives like:
- Digital ID
- Digital Economy
- Technology-driven governance reforms
A Pillar of Economic Development
The project is a foundational element of the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP), a World Bank-supported initiative led by NADRA and executed in coordination with various stakeholders. The accurate and timely collection of life event data is expected to fuel economic activity and policy-making by enabling data-driven governance.
Nationwide Rollout and Provincial Collaboration
To ensure smooth nationwide implementation, NADRA is signing formal agreements with all provincial and regional governments:
- In Sindh, a signing ceremony was held in Karachi, attended by Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani, with participation from the Health and Local Government Secretaries and the Director General of NADRA Karachi.
- A similar agreement was signed in Balochistan, where NADRA Balochistan finalized the deal with the Provincial Secretaries of Health and Local Government in Quetta.
- Agreements with other provinces, along with Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), are expected to follow shortly.
Conclusion
This initiative marks a transformative leap in Pakistan’s governance and public service delivery. With NADRA’s leadership, and support from both federal and provincial stakeholders, “Udaan Pakistan” is set to establish a digitally integrated society, enhancing not just administrative efficiency but also economic progress.
