Google Updates Android Dialer, Users Express Frustration

Many Android users reported sudden changes in their phone’s display settings and dialer this week, causing confusion, especially for those who rely heavily on the dialer. At first, some thought their devices were malfunctioning.

Later, users discovered through social media that the changes were part of a routine Google update to Android system apps, not a fault or security breach.

Experts explained that the update is linked to Google’s Material 3 design rollout, which alters the Phone app’s appearance, including the call screen, dialer layout, and call controls. These updates were tested earlier this year with beta users and are now expanding to more devices.

Interestingly, some users reported receiving the update without manually updating their phones or even while offline. However, older Android versions remain unaffected. Most reports came from users running Android OS 15.

The new design brought noticeable changes in how calls are attended or managed, with many finding the dialer screen different from before.

Experts reassured that this is a normal system update and not a threat, while iPhone users have not seen similar changes.
