In a historic achievement, Pakistan players have claimed the top positions in two crucial ODI categories – batting and bowling, as per the latest rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday.
Shaheen Shah Afridi, who has been delivering exceptional performances for Pakistan in the Cricket World Cup, made an impressive leap of nine places to secure the top spot in the ODI bowling rankings. Meanwhile, skipper Babar Azam maintained his slender lead at the forefront of the corresponding batting list.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proudly celebrated this milestone in a post on X, stating, “With @babarazam258 the No.1 batter, this is the first time since ICC ODI Player rankings were introduced that a Pakistan batter and bowler top the ODI rankings.”

A day prior to this announcement, Afridi became the joint leading wicket-taker in the tournament, sharing the position with Australia’s spinner Adam Zampa, with both having taken 16 wickets each. Notably, Afridi also achieved the distinction of becoming the fastest pacer to reach 100 ODI wickets, accomplishing this feat in just 51 innings.
