FBR Launches Surprise Inspections of Marriage Halls in Karachi

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has initiated a new campaign to collect revenue and tax data from marriage halls across Karachi. On Thursday, FBR officials, including assistant commissioners from Regional Tax Offices (RTO) I and II, carried out surprise inspections at several marriage halls in District East to gather records of events held and payments received.

The surprise visits covered prominent areas, including Shahra-e-Faisal, Nursery, PECHS, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal. During these inspections, officials collected withholding tax receipts from the owners of the marriage halls, along with records of ceremonies held throughout the year. The collected data will be forwarded to the chief commissioners for further processing. An FBR audit team is expected to review the records of marriage halls across the city to assess the income generated from the events.

The unexpected visits have caused anxiety among marriage hall owners, who are now considering approaching the FBR chairman to address their concerns about the audits and the potential impact on their businesses.
