Dar’s Visit to Kabul Aims to Boost Regional Ties and Border Security

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar landed in Kabul on Saturday for a one-day official visit, underscoring Islamabad’s push for deeper cooperation with Afghanistan’s interim administration.

Dar, accompanied by a senior delegation comprising officials from the interior ministry, railways, foreign affairs, and revenue board, was received by Afghan authorities upon arrival. His visit follows a recent uptick in diplomatic engagement between the two neighboring nations.

According to Pakistan’s foreign ministry, Dar is holding high-level meetings with acting Afghan Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, and Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. Talks are centered around boosting trade, security collaboration, regional connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges.

Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan described the visit as a reaffirmation of Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. He also confirmed that discussions would include Islamabad’s concerns over cross-border militancy and terrorist safe havens, particularly related to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The visit comes on the heels of a Pakistan-Afghanistan Joint Coordination Committee session, where both sides noted signs of a possible policy shift by the Afghan Taliban regarding the TTP presence on Afghan soil.
