Health authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have issued a fresh advisory to prevent the spread of the Congo Virus before Eidul Adha 2026. The alert aims to reduce health risks during the upcoming religious festival, when animal handling increases.
In Peshawar, hospitals across the province have been placed on high alert. Officials have directed all healthcare facilities to take immediate precautionary steps. The advisory describes the Congo Virus as a serious and highly infectious disease that requires strict control measures.
All District Health Officers and hospitals have been instructed to fully follow the issued guidelines. Medical Teaching Institutions and district hospitals must ensure complete compliance. Authorities want all facilities to remain prepared for any suspected cases.
Hospitals have been told to send samples of suspected patients to public health laboratories. Each sample must include a completed investigation form. This step will help ensure accurate diagnosis and timely response.
Healthcare workers have been advised to stay vigilant at all times. They must follow strict safety protocols when dealing with patients. The use of personal protective equipment is now mandatory for medical staff. This includes gloves, masks, and protective clothing.
The advisory also outlines safe handling of samples. Suspected case samples must be transported using triple packaging. The cold chain must be maintained during the entire process. These steps are important to prevent contamination and ensure reliable testing.
Authorities have also focused on livestock safety. Tick control measures have been strongly recommended to limit the spread of the virus. Experts say animals can carry ticks that transmit the Congo Virus to humans.
For diagnosis, approved tests include PCR and ELISA methods. Medical staff have been instructed to collect blood samples with great care. Proper handling is necessary to avoid exposure.
Hospitals have also been advised to stay in contact with the National Institute of Health for guidance. The institute will provide technical support and updates if needed.
