Lahore witnessed the largest Marathon Event in Pakistan’s history, attracting thousands of participants from across the country. The event brought together children, adults, and persons with disabilities, making it one of the most inclusive sports gatherings in recent years.
The CM Punjab National Marathon & Cycling Race 2026 started early in the morning at Liberty Chowk. The race began at 6am with great enthusiasm. Provincial Sports Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar officially inaugurated the Marathon Event by leading the start on a bicycle.
More than 11,000 athletes and citizens took part in the event. Participants competed in different categories designed for all age groups and fitness levels. A 21-kilometre marathon and a 21-kilometre cycling race were organised for men. Women participated in a five-kilometre marathon and a five-kilometre cycling race.
Families also joined the Marathon Event through a two-kilometre fun race. This category encouraged people of all ages to participate together. A one-kilometre wheelchair race was arranged for persons with disabilities. This step highlighted the focus on inclusivity and equal opportunities in sports.
In the men’s 21-kilometre cycling race, Ali Ilyas from Karachi secured first position. Aqib Shah from Lahore finished second, while Sanaullah took third place. Their performances were praised by both officials and spectators.
In the women’s five-kilometre cycling race, Karachi participants dominated all top positions. Zainab secured first place. Anisa came second, while Rabi finished third.
Authorities made strict security arrangements to ensure safety. A detailed traffic plan was also implemented to manage the large crowd. Citizens were advised to use alternative routes to avoid inconvenience.

Officials said the Marathon Event reflects the growing interest in fitness and sports in Pakistan. The success of this event is expected to encourage more such activities in the future.
