Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatha, who resigned earlier in the day over alleged election rigging, reportedly held a meeting with PTI leader Mian Aslam Iqbal before his explosive press conference. According to reports, the commissioner made allegations against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and others after the meeting with the PTI stalwart.
It is claimed that the commissioner had significant investments in a housing society named Al Rahman Gardens and financial dealings with a leading property tycoon. Reports suggest that this move was a “political move” to avoid arrest before his scheduled retirement on March 13, as he is facing multiple corruption cases, including the illegal acquisition of Gym Khana membership and large-scale property purchases in Defence Phase 8. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is reportedly investigating a case related to Gym Khana membership.

The commissioner allegedly called the media to Rawalpindi Stadium under the guise of briefing them on PSL arrangements. Upon arrival, he announced his resignation over election rigging, and it is reported that he had been holding meetings at Gym Khana in the past few days. The allegations, which are yet to be independently verified, surfaced after the commissioner admitted to his role in election rigging in Rawalpindi Division. He claimed that returning officers under his command manipulated results for at least 13 political candidates.
Chatha revealed that he had done injustice to the people in Rawalpindi Division and handed himself over to the police for rigging, stating that he deserved capital punishment. He accused administrative institutions, including the police and the election commission, of involvement in election fraud. Chatha mentioned having suicidal thoughts for his role in rigging but decided to expose everything before the people of Pakistan. The senior official’s shocking remarks came amid protests across the country, with various political parties, including PTI and JUI-F, alleging widespread electoral fraud in the recently concluded polls.
