Cambridge International has delayed an AS Level Mathematics examination in Pakistan after reports surfaced that the paper had been leaked before the scheduled exam time. The development has raised concerns among students, parents, and educational institutions during the ongoing examination season.
According to officials from Cambridge International, the affected paper was AS Level Mathematics Paper 32 (9709), which was set to take place on May 15 across Pakistan. However, after information emerged suggesting that the paper had been circulated prior to the examination, the organization decided to postpone the test as a precautionary step.
Cambridge authorities confirmed that a fresh examination paper will now be prepared and conducted to ensure fairness and transparency for all candidates. Officials added that the revised examination date would be officially announced by May 22 after coordination with relevant stakeholders and institutions in Pakistan.
The examination body stated that the decision was made following consultations and the implementation of additional security procedures aimed at protecting the integrity of the examination process. Cambridge also assured schools and students that detailed guidance regarding new precautionary measures and examination arrangements would be shared by May 22.
Despite the postponement, Cambridge clarified that the overall result schedule for Cambridge International AS and A Levels would remain unaffected. The official results are still expected to be announced on August 11 as previously planned.
Country Director Uzma Yousuf described the recent incidents involving leaked examination papers as highly unusual and concerning. She said certain groups appeared to be attempting to undermine the credibility of the examination system and negatively impact students’ academic futures.
She further stated that Cambridge International was actively pursuing legal and administrative action to identify those involved in the leaks and ensure strict action against anyone responsible for compromising the examination process.
