Barrister Gohar Re-Elected Unopposed As PTI Chairman

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Barrister Gohar Ali Khan secured his position as the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) unopposed on Thursday, making him the only individual to be elected to this office twice in the party, following the withdrawal of his rival panel.

In a statement issued late Thursday, the PTI declared, “At the conclusion of the withdrawal phase of Candidates/Panels, there is only one Candidate/Panel remaining.”

Omar Ayub Khan also emerged as the unopposed choice for the central general secretary of the party, according to the party’s announcement today. Other PTI leaders, including Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ali Amin Gandapur, and Haleem Adil Sheikh, were also elected unopposed to the roles of the party’s presidents for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh, respectively, as no candidates stepped forward to contest against them.

For the Balochistan president’s post, the PTI will conduct an intra-party poll in Quetta.

The statement noted that the final result of the election would be officially declared by the Federal Election Commissioner on March 3, 2024, marking the conclusion of the election process.

These intra-party polls were reinstated following a Supreme Court decision last month, upholding the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) ruling on the party’s internal election, which resulted in the PTI losing its iconic electoral bat symbol.

In November of the previous year, the incarcerated party founder, Imran Khan, resigned as the PTI chief to avoid potential legal consequences. Imran Khan has been facing numerous legal challenges, ranging from terrorism to money laundering, since his removal from power in April 2022.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
