Mai Dhai, the renowned Pakistani classical singer from Sindh province, recently achieved a milestone by being showcased on the iconic Times Square billboard in New York City. Times Square is globally recognized for its vibrant digital displays that feature celebrities, brands, and cultural icons, making it one of the world's busiest and most visited locations. Mai Dhai gained prominence for her distinctive voice and popular songs such as "Kadi Ao Ni." She hails from the Manganhar Muslim community, renowned for its rich musical heritage in Pakistan’s Tharparkar district and India’s Rajasthan state. Spotify Pakistan celebrated Mai Dhai's feature on their official Instagram page, commemorating it with a post that read, “A voice like that of the cuckoo reaches Times Square directly,” accompanied by an image of her on the billboard. The post encouraged followers to discover her music on the #EQUALPAKISTAN playlist. The #EQUALPAKISTAN initiative by Spotify aims to showcase both established and emerging female artists, acknowledging their contributions to Pakistan’s vibrant music industry. Mai Dhai's career gained significant momentum after her performances at various Pakistani musical festivals. She rose to fame in 2016 when she made her debut on Coke Studio’s season 8, where she captivated audiences with her renditions of “Aankhaṛli Phaṛookai” and “Kadi Ao Ni” alongside Karam Abbas Khan and Atif Aslam. This recognition at Times Square adds to a growing list of Pakistani musicians featured on prominent global platforms, showcasing the diversity and richness of Pakistani musical talent to international audiences.
Taylor Swift experienced a humorous onstage moment during her third Eras Tour show in London on June 23. While performing "All Too Well" at Wembley Stadium, the 34-year-old singer accidentally swallowed a bug, causing her to cough mid-song. Swift quickly recovered, jokingly asking the audience, "I swallowed a bug, can you sing?" This incident mirrored a similar mishap in Chicago last December, where she also joked about swallowing a bug during a performance. Adding to the night's surprises, Swift's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, joined her onstage during the Tortured Poets Department segment to assist with a costume change. Kelce, dressed sharply in a top hat and jacket, helped Swift transition into her attire for "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart," creating a memorable moment for fans. The London shows also featured special guest appearances, including singer Gracie Abrams, who performed her collaboration with Swift, "Us," during the surprise songs segment. Notably, the audience included Prince William and his children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—on Friday, marking Prince William's 42nd birthday celebration at Swift's concert. Travis Kelce's presence alongside his brother Jason and sister-in-law Kylie added a familial touch to the occasion, with the Kelce family enjoying the fan support and camaraderie among Swift's admirers. Swift's European leg of the Eras Tour has been a success following her shows in Paris and Cardiff, continuing to draw enthusiastic crowds across the continent.
