Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, has been awarded the Turkish Armed Forces Medal of Distinguished Service, Türkiye’s highest military honour, during his official visit to Ankara. The award recognizes his role in strengthening defence cooperation and enhancing military relations between Pakistan and Türkiye.
The prestigious honour was presented by General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, Chief of the Turkish General Staff. According to officials, the medal was awarded in recognition of Field Marshal Munir’s exceptional contributions to expanding military collaboration and reinforcing the longstanding brotherly relationship between the armed forces of both countries.
The latest recognition further strengthens Field Marshal Munir’s international profile. With this award, he is reported to have received the highest military honours from more than ten countries, making him one of the world’s most decorated serving military leaders.
Upon his arrival in Türkiye, Field Marshal Munir was welcomed with a ceremonial Guard of Honour, reflecting the significance of his official visit. In another notable gesture, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan personally received the Pakistani military chief at Ankara Airport, highlighting the close strategic partnership between Islamabad and Ankara.
During the visit, Field Marshal Munir is holding a series of high-level meetings with Türkiye’s military and political leadership. The discussions are expected to cover defence cooperation, regional security, military collaboration, strategic coordination and other issues of mutual interest.
Pakistan and Türkiye have maintained close defence and diplomatic relations for decades, with both countries regularly conducting joint military training, defence cooperation initiatives and high-level exchanges. The latest visit is expected to further strengthen these longstanding ties.
Officials said both countries remain committed to expanding cooperation in defence, security and regional stability. The visit is being viewed as another important step toward deepening the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Türkiye across multiple sectors.
