At a ceremony held at Islamabad’s Aiwan-e-Sadr, President Dr. Arif Alvi administered the oath of office to him.
On August 12, Raja Riaz, the departing Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA), and Shehbaz Sharif, the outgoing Prime Minister, agreed on Kakar’s nominations.

Prior to his nomination as interim prime minister, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjarani accepted Kakar’s resignation from the upper house of Parliament.
According to the notification, Kakar’s seat became vacant on August 14 in accordance with clause (1) of Article 64 of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s Constitution.
Profile
In 2018, Kakar ran as an independent and won a seat in the Balochistan Senate. He was elected to a six-year term that will expire in March 2024.
In the 2008 election, he also ran for a seat in the National Assembly from Quetta, but barely lost to Agha Nasir of the Pakistan Peoples Party.
