Adiala Jail Restricts Meetings, Media Due To Terror Threat

The recently elected government has imposed restrictions on media coverage and prisoner meetings at Adiala Jail due to the heightened threat of a terrorist attack. Adiala Jail, known for its high-security measures, currently houses the former prime minister and his top aides, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Elahi.

This decision to prohibit meetings and media coverage at Adiala Jail was prompted by intelligence agency warnings regarding a potential terrorist attack. The move has raised concerns, particularly because various leaders from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), lawyers, and family members used to have meetings with Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.

Recent police claims suggest successful interventions to prevent terrorist incidents in the vicinity of Adiala Jail, where three individuals were reportedly apprehended with explosives and maps of the jail.

Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister, was arrested in August of the preceding year following a court verdict in Islamabad that found him guilty of corrupt practices in the Toshakhana case. Initially detained in Attock Jail, he was subsequently transferred to Adiala Jail on September 26.

Throughout his incarceration, Imran Khan has remained out of the public eye and has refrained from attending court hearings in person. Instead, judges and lawyers have traveled to the jail for trial proceedings, citing security concerns raised by the government.
