Dense Fog Forces Closure of Multiple Motorways in Punjab

Dense fog forced the closure of several motorways across Punjab on Sunday, prompting authorities to advise motorists against unnecessary travel and to strictly observe safety precautions.

According to officials from the National Highway and Motorway Police, extremely low visibility caused by thick fog led to the temporary shutdown of multiple motorway sections to prevent accidents and ensure public safety. Police said visibility in many areas dropped to dangerously low levels, making driving conditions hazardous.

On the M-2 motorway, heavy vehicles have been restricted from traveling between Lahore and Kot Momin due to poor visibility. Similarly, the M-3 motorway section from Faizpur to Jaranwala has been completely closed as dense fog continues to disrupt traffic flow in the area.

Authorities also advised heavy vehicle drivers to avoid using the M-4 motorway between Pindi Bhattian and Abdul Hakim until weather conditions improve. In addition, the Lahore–Sialkot M-11 motorway has been temporarily shut for all types of vehicles because of unsafe driving conditions caused by fog.

Motorway Police have issued repeated warnings that lane violations and speeding during foggy conditions can result in serious and sometimes fatal accidents. Drivers have been urged to follow traffic rules, use fog lights where necessary, maintain safe distances, and avoid sudden lane changes.

Officials further advised motorists to limit travel to daylight hours, recommending journeys only between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm when visibility is relatively better. They emphasized that caution and patience are essential while driving in foggy weather.

Authorities said they are closely monitoring weather conditions and traffic flow on all major routes. Motorways will be reopened once visibility improves and conditions are deemed safe for travel. Motorists are encouraged to stay updated through official advisories and prioritize safety until the fog situation clears across the province.
