FBR Launches Action Against Illegal Goods Sold Online

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced a major crackdown on sellers marketing smuggled and non-custom-paid goods via social media platforms.

According to FBR sources, the operation will begin on January 1, with tax authorities closely monitoring social media accounts involved in illegal sales. Detailed data on sellers will be collected to support enforcement action.

Officials from the FBR will pose as customers to contact sellers, gather mobile numbers, email addresses, and other identifying information. The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will assist in verifying identities of the individuals involved.

A wide range of smuggled products is reportedly being sold online. These include electronics, laptops, Chromebooks, household appliances, shoes, clothing, makeup products, chocolates, toffees, blankets, bedsheets, carpets, tyres, and auto parts.

Additional items include stoves, ovens, cooking ranges, crockery, juicers, choppers, dry fruits, canned foods, jams, olive oil, furniture, decorative items, tiles, and sanitary fittings. The FBR will trace sellers to their shops and warehouses for further legal proceedings.

The board has emphasized that compliance is mandatory to protect Pakistan’s national economy. Notices will be issued to those failing to cooperate, and stricter legal action may follow if required.

Earlier, the FBR also launched a campaign against tax evaders who display luxurious lifestyles on social media without filing income tax returns. Its Social Media Monitoring Team has already compiled detailed information on such individuals.

The FBR highlighted that effective intelligence gathering, inter-agency coordination, and close monitoring of social media are crucial to curbing smuggling and tax evasion. Officials aim to ensure that illegal trade through online platforms is minimized while promoting fair economic practices.
