Police have registered a case following a brazen theft at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) dog centre in Tarlai, Islamabad, where dozens of dogs were reportedly stolen by unidentified individuals
According to details, the suspects broke into the facility on Sunday, forcibly entering the premises and loading approximately 50 to 60 dogs onto three separate vehicles. During the incident, a shed at the centre was also damaged before the culprits fled the scene.
The FIR was filed based on a complaint from the dog centre’s security guard, who witnessed the break-in and reported the theft to authorities. Police have included charges related to robbery and obstruction of official duties under relevant sections of the law.
Officials have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible, while the CDA has expressed concern over the loss of the animals, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety and security of the centre. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning nearby residents in hopes of gathering information on the stolen dogs and the vehicles used in the crime.
The incident has sparked outrage among animal welfare groups and the public, who have called for stricter security measures at such facilities to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Law enforcement agencies have assured that all efforts are being made to recover the missing dogs and hold the perpetrators accountable.
This theft highlights ongoing security challenges faced by animal shelters and the need for improved monitoring and protection measures at government-run facilities.
